White Orchid

A white orchid is one of the most beautiful, exotic and graceful flower ever to adorn a room or a bouquet, and just the sight of it suggests symbolic meanings.

When we think of a white orchid it may be as an ideal flower for a wedding bouquet because of its association as a romantic flower. Each type of flower has a meaning, so what are we saying when we choose a white orchid?

It will come as no surprise to hear that a white orchid signifies purity. If you give the gift of a white orchid the message you are giving will be that you are thinking about the person or that you care for them. The word orchid can signify delicate beauty, so if you give a white orchid you are showing your love, respect or even adoration for the recipient.

The gift of a white orchid could also represent peace and gratitude, as this is the general meaning of all orchids. Although orchids come in a range of colours, some particularly vibrant, there’s something very beautiful about the look of a white orchid and is the style I would always choose for my own interior décor.

In the bedroom a white orchid is an elegant complement to fine white Egyptian silk and cotton bedding. It may also be placed on a table in the dining room for a special romantic meal. A white orchid on its own says as much as a single red rose and is a more unusual and stylish choice.  There is no need to think that a white orchid is an expensive flower to buy as you don’t have to buy a cut flower. Why not buy a white orchid growing singly in a pot? These are easy to find and you will be able to enjoy your white orchid year after year.

Many people may think that the white orchid would be too difficult to grow their own, but these plants aren’t as difficult to care for as you might imagine. The heat and conditions in your house should be ideal for the type of white orchid you can find in local garden centres and some good supermarkets. They come with growing instructions and it’s quite simple to look after your white orchid in a way that means it will flower time for months at a time. The first orchid I ever had flowered for eleven months.

Don’t over-water your white orchid or you will kill it with love. Keep the growing medium for your white orchid moist, or even let it dry out before watering again. If you let your white orchid stand in water you will kill it. In fact it will thrive on neglect. Once your white orchid has flowered, wait for the petals to drop and then cut the stem just above the third node from the base. A new stem will soon grow and you will have another crop of white orchids to enjoy.
